ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Electric outboard motor

Do you like boats? Boats move on water and usually have a motor. Sometimes, instead of using gasoline to power the motor, we can use something called an electric motor.

Imagine a toy boat in a bathtub. You can make the toy boat move by holding it and pushing it through the water, or by blowing air into a straw and making bubbles. That's how an electric outboard motor works too - it moves the boat by pushing water or air!

Instead of making bubbles, of course, the electric motor uses an electric motor to spin its propeller, which is like a fan. When the propeller spins, it scoops up the water behind the boat and pushes it backward, which makes the boat move forward.

Electric outboard motors are good for the environment because they don't produce pollution like gasoline motors do. They're also quieter, so you can enjoy being on the water without a lot of noise.

Just like with any motor, to power an electric outboard motor you need a source of electricity. That electricity can come from a battery that is on the boat with you, and when the battery runs out of energy you'll need to charge it up again.
