Electrical telegraph

Imagine you want to talk to your friend who lives far away. You cannot shout and be heard that far, so you decide to use an electrical telegraph. An electrical telegraph is a machine that helps people send messages using electricity.

To use an electrical telegraph, you start by typing your message into a machine called a telegraph key. The telegraph key is like a piano that has only one note. Every time you press the button, it makes a sound.

Then, the sound goes through a wire connected to your friend's telegraph. Your friend can hear the sound on their end, and they record the message by writing it down.

It is a bit like a secret code between you and your friend, but instead of using words, you use the sound of the telegraph key.

When you and your friend agree on how to translate the sounds into words, you can send messages quickly and easily. Even though you are far apart, you are still able to communicate with each other using the electrical telegraph.

Before people used the electrical telegraph, it was very hard and very slow to send messages over long distances. But with this invention, it became much easier and much faster. Because of this, people were able to share news, ideas, and messages with people far away much more quickly than before.
