ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Electroetching

Electroetching is a process that uses electricity to make designs on metal. Just imagine you have a piece of metal like a shiny penny. You can draw a picture on the metal with a special marker or paint called "resist". This marker or paint is like a shield that protects the metal from being affected by the electricity.

Next, you put the metal in a special bath of chemical solution (like saltwater). You connect it to a battery charger with a wire. Then, the electricity flows into the metal, and it starts to get eaten away by the chemical solution. The areas that were not covered by the resist marker or paint get eaten away faster than the areas that are protected by the resist marker or paint.

After a while, you take the metal out of the solution and remove the resist marker or paint. Then you can see the design that you made on the metal! It can be like magic! You can use this process to make cool designs on all sorts of metals, like copper, brass, silver, and gold.
