Electron cyclotron resonance

Electron cyclotron resonance (ECR) is a process that happens when electrons, which are tiny particles with a negative charge, move around in a circle in response to a combination of electricity, magnetism, and radio waves. The radio waves excite, or energize, the electrons, causing them to move around in this circular path at a very high speed. This increased energy and speed makes it possible for the electrons to interact with other molecules in the air, causing different chemical reactions, which can be used to make medicines, nuclear energy, and even stars.
