ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Electronic Privacy Information Center

Okay kiddo, so the Electronic Privacy Information Center is like a superhero that helps protect your personal and private information from bad guys.

You know how you have secret things like your favorite toy or special drawings that you only want to show to certain people? Well, grown-ups also have secret things like their email addresses, bank information, and messages to their friends.

The Electronic Privacy Information Center makes sure that big companies and the government don't collect too much information about the grown-ups and that if they do, they have to keep it really, really safe. They do this by telling the government and companies that they shouldn't be allowed to take too much of the secret information and that they must tell people when they take it.

This superhero also helps people who have been hurt by bad guys who steal their secrets, like cyberbullies who post mean things about people online. The Electronic Privacy Information Center can help these people by making sure that the bad guy is punished and that their secret information is deleted.

So, just like how your parents help protect you, the Electronic Privacy Information Center helps protect the grown-ups from bad guys who want to take their secret information.
