ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Electroreception

Electroreception is a way for some animals to sense electricity in their environment. It's like having super extra-sensitive antennas to detect very small amounts of electric fields or currents. Some animals use this sense to find food, find mates and even avoid predators. For example, sharks can sense tiny electric fields around their prey, and eels can sense weak electric currents in the water. Animals like these have special organs called electroreceptors (or electroreceptive organs) that help them pick up these electrical signals.
