Elemental chlorine free

Okay kiddo, so you know that paper is made from trees, right? Well, in order to turn the trees into paper, they have to go through a process called pulping.

Before, people used to use something called elemental chlorine to bleach the wood pulp and make the paper white. But this made a chemical called dioxin that is really bad for the environment and can harm animals and people.

So, now they use something called elemental chlorine-free (ECF) methods to bleach the wood pulp. This means they use different chemicals that are safer for the environment and don't make dioxin.

ECF methods are a better choice for making paper because they are safer for us and the planet, and we can still make the paper look white without hurting anyone or anything.
