Eli Terry

Eli Terry was a man a long, long time ago who made clocks. He was very good at making clocks and lots of people liked his clocks. He was so good that he even made a new kind of clock that was cheaper and easier to make. This new kind of clock was called a pillar and scroll clock because it had pillars on the sides and a scroll on top. Lots of people wanted to buy these new clocks because they were pretty and not too expensive.

Eli Terry's clocks helped people know what time it was so they could do things like go to work, school, or play. Before clocks were invented, people had to guess what time it was based on where the sun was in the sky. But now, thanks to people like Eli Terry, we can use clocks to tell time and not have to guess!
