ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

spectroscopy

Spectroscopy is a scientific process used to learn about materials. It works by shining light (which is made up of many different colors) at the material and then measuring the colors that come back from the material. By studying the different colors coming back from the material, scientists can learn about the material, such as its composition and structure. This helps them to understand and control how materials behave.
