Railroads are a kind of transportation. They are special because you can get on a train and it will take you to different places. Trains usually run on metal tracks that are laid out like a giant 'X' on the ground. The part of the train that rides on the tracks is called the railroad car or locomotive. The locomotive is powered by an engine that runs on fuel. People and things like cars, food and supplies use the railroads to get to different places.
