ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Eliminative materialism

Eliminative materialism is an idea about how we can better understand the world. It suggests that the way we think about things is sometimes wrong. Instead of using ideas like “mind” and “soul” to explain how we think and act, eliminative materialism suggests that we look at things using only facts. This means using evidence from the physical world to explain things. For example, instead of saying that a person is acting a certain way because they have a “soul”, we might look at how their brain is working and what hormones they have in their body to understand their behavior. Eliminative materialism says that some ideas about the world are not based on facts and can be removed.
