Emission Reduction Unit

Hi there! Today we're going to talk about something called an "emission reduction unit."

Do you know what pollution is? It's when we make things dirty and bad for the environment. One way we make pollution is by burning fossil fuels like coal and oil to create energy to power things like cars and machines.

But burning these fuels creates something called "carbon dioxide," which is a gas that's bad for the environment because it traps heat and makes the Earth warmer. This is called "climate change" and it's causing a lot of problems.

So what can we do to help stop climate change? Well, one thing we can do is try to reduce the amount of carbon dioxide we create. This is where "emission reduction units" come in.

An "emission reduction unit" is like a little credit that you earn if you do something that helps reduce the amount of carbon dioxide in the air. For example, if you make a machine that uses renewable energy like wind or solar power instead of burning fossil fuels, you might get an emission reduction unit.

These units can then be bought and sold on something called a "carbon market." Basically, companies who make a lot of pollution can buy these units so they can keep polluting, but also do something good for the environment to balance it out.

So in a way, an "emission reduction unit" is kind of like a gold star for being good to the environment. And the more we earn and trade them, the more we can help stop climate change and make the Earth a cleaner, safer place.
