ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

En (typography)

En (or en-space) is the name for a unit of measure used in typography. It is about halfway between a normal space and a full-size em (which is twice an en). It is used to separate characters and words in text so that it looks better and is easier to read. To help you understand, pretend you are making a sandwich. The two pieces of bread are like an em-space and the filling in between them (like cheese, lettuce, etc.) is like an en-space.
