Encirclement

Encirclement is when you trap something or someone inside a circle. It's kind of like when you surround your toys with your hands and they can't escape, except encirclement can be used in really big ways too.



For example, imagine you are playing a game of tag with your friends in the playground. If you surround one of your friends and they can't get out of the circle you've made, then you have "encircled" them.



In a bigger way, think of a country. If another country's army surrounds and traps (or encircles) the enemy country's army, then they have an advantage in battle because the other army cannot escape or receive help from outside. It can be a very powerful tactic in war.
