Okay sweetie, so back when Peru was first being colonized by the Spanish, they decided to create something called encomiendas. Think of it like a big job assignment. The Spanish gave a group of people, usually native Peruvians, to a Spanish person called an encomendero. The encomendero was supposed to take care of these people and teach them about Christianity.
But the problem was, many encomenderos didn't take care of the people they were supposed to be looking after. Instead, they made them work hard on farms, mines, and haciendas without paying them or treating them well.
This was really unfair and made the native Peruvians very unhappy. Eventually, people started speaking out against the encomiendas and the Spanish government had to create new laws to protect the native people.
So now, encomiendas in Peru are not allowed anymore. People can't be owned or used for work without their consent. It was a really tough time in Peru's history, but we're learning from it and making things better now.
