ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

English passive voice

Imagine that you and your friend are playing a game together. Your friend is the one doing most of the actions, but you still want to talk about what's happening in the game. If you say "I am playing the game with my friend," that's called the active voice because you're telling who is doing the action (you). But if you say "The game is being played by me and my friend," that's called the passive voice. It focuses more on what is happening (the game being played) and who it's happening to (me and my friend) rather than who is doing it (you). We often use the passive voice when we want to sound more formal or objective, but it can also make sentences harder to understand. So it's good to know both ways of saying things!
