Transportation is the movement of people, animals and goods from one place to another. It can be done by car, bus, train, boat, airplane and other ways. The environmental effects of transportation are when the gases and particles that are released from vehicles pollute the air, water and land. This pollution can cause things like global warming, acid rain and smog. Global warming is when the Earth's temperature is rising because of too much heat-trapping pollution in the atmosphere. Acid rain is rain that has been made acidic by air pollution and can damage buildings and forests. Smog is a type of pollution made of pollutants like smoke, dust and chemicals that mix together and cause breathing problems. To help reduce these environmental effects, we can all use public transportation, carpool or take bikes instead of cars to help reduce the amount of carbon emissions in the atmosphere.
