ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Epistemological realism

Epistemological realism is a way of thinking about how we discover knowledge. It means that there is an objective truth out there in the world, and our goal is to discover that truth by finding out how things actually are. To better understand it you can think of it like this: if you see a tree outside your window, it's not just your opinion that the tree is there, it's actually there in the real world, no matter what you think about it. Epistemological realism helps us explore the world around us and find out what is really going on.
