ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Equalization (communications)

Equalization in communications is like making sure everyone can hear and understand each other when they talk on the phone or online.

Imagine you're talking to someone on the phone but you can't hear them very well because their voice is too quiet or muffled. This makes it hard for you to understand them and have a good conversation.

Equalization helps solve this problem by adjusting the volume and clarity of the sound. It makes sure that the voice sounds just right and you can hear it clearly, just like when you're listening to your favorite song on the radio.

This is especially important if you're communicating over long distances, like across the ocean, because the sound can get distorted and hard to understand. By using equalization, you can make sure that the sound stays clear and easy to understand no matter where it's coming from.

So basically, equalization makes sure that everyone's message is heard loud and clear.
