Essentially contested concept

Essentially contested concepts are ideas that cannot be fully agreed on by everyone. They often describe things that are abstract and can be interpreted in many different ways. For example, freedom is an essentially contested concept. Some people will think of freedom as being able to do whatever they want without any restrictions, while others may see it as having certain rights and limitations.
