Ethnic cleansing in Bhutan
Okay kiddo, so in Bhutan there are people who come from different ethnic groups or backgrounds. But some people who are part of the majority group in Bhutan didn't like the other groups and wanted to get rid of them. They made things really hard for the other groups like not allowing them to speak their language, wear their traditional clothes or even practice their religion. So many people from these other groups had to leave their homes and families to find somewhere else to live.
It's like if you had a group of friends, but one day some of the kids in the group didn't like other kids from different schools or backgrounds and they were mean to them. Some of these kids would feel really sad and wouldn't want to be friends anymore or would have to leave the group altogether.
Sadly, this happened on a much larger scale in Bhutan and many families were torn apart as they had to leave their homes and everything they knew. It was a really hard time for lots of people and it's important we learn from it and make sure it never happens again.
