ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Etymology of Skye

Ok so, Skye is a word that comes from Scotland which is a country far away. It is a name for a big island that is part of Scotland. But, where did this word come from? Well, a very long time ago, people who spoke a language called Gaelic (GAY-lik) lived in Scotland. They used to call the island "Eilean a' Cheò" which means "The Misty Isle" because it was often surrounded by fog. Over time, as English became more popular in Scotland, people started to use the English version of the name which is "Skye". And that's how the name Skye came to be!
