Evolution

Evolution is a process that helps show how different kinds of living things (plants and animals, including humans) change over time. It is like a big jigsaw puzzle, but instead of pieces coming together to make a picture, evolution is animal and plant pieces changing slightly over many generations until something new is made. As time passes, traits about animals and plants that help them survive are passed down from their parents and grandfathers and grandmothers to their children and grandchildren. This means that animals and plants that have traits that make them better suited to their environment (like the ability to run fast or fly, or to be able to find food more easily) are more likely to survive and have more babies. Over time, the descendants of these animals and plants will look more and more like their ancestors, but with some changes. Evolution helps make sure animals and plants are able to survive in their environment and keep on living!
