Hey there little buddy! So you know how some animals have a mom and a dad and others just have one parent? Well, back in the olden days, everything used to just have one parent.
But then something really cool happened- some of these one-parent creatures, let's call them amoebas for now, started to divide into two. And sometimes they wouldn't divide exactly the same way, so you'd end up with two amoebas that were a little different from each other.
So now there were two of them, and since they were a little different, they could do different jobs. One might be better at getting food, and the other might be better at defending against predators.
Over time, this dividing process got more and more complex. And some amoebas started doing another cool thing- they would share little pieces of themselves with each other.
Now, if you think about it, when you share pieces of yourself with someone else, they're basically becoming like your family. And when you have a family, you can do even more cool things- like working together to get food, or taking turns protecting each other.
And that's where sex comes in! See, in some animals, when they want to make babies, they don't just divide like the amoebas do. Instead, they have a mom and a dad who each give some of their cells to make a baby.
When the cells from the mom and dad combine, it makes a unique new creature with different traits from both of its parents. And that's why there's so much variety in the world today!
So there you have it, kiddo- sex is all about combining cells from two different creatures to make a brand new one. And it's all thanks to some little amoebas who started dividing and sharing a long, long time ago.
