ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Evolutionary medicine

Evolutionary medicine is the study of how our bodies have changed and developed over time to help us live healthy lives. It's like looking at a really long storybook about our bodies and how they have changed to keep us safe and healthy.

For example, a long time ago, our ancestors had to forage for food, which meant they had to move around a lot. Our bodies developed muscles and bones to help us walk and run to find food, which is why we're able to go for walks and run around in the playground today.

Our ancestors also had to deal with illnesses and diseases, and our bodies developed ways to fight off these illnesses. For example, when we get sick, our body's immune system works hard to fight off the virus or bacteria that's making us sick.

Evolutionary medicine helps us understand why our bodies do certain things and how we can use this knowledge to stay healthy. It's like having a secret codebook that helps us stay strong and healthy!
