ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Execution by burning

Execution by burning is a very bad thing that used to happen in the past. People would take someone who was accused of doing something very wrong, and tie them up to a stick or a pole. Then, they would light a fire underneath their feet, which would make them feel very hot and hurt a lot.

The idea was that the person being punished would slowly burn to death while everyone watched. This was really, really painful and not something that people should ever do to anyone, no matter what they may have done wrong. Luckily, this kind of punishment is not legal anymore, and we always try to be kind and fair to everybody, even if they've made mistakes.
