Exon-intron database

So you know how when you play with Legos, you can put different blocks together to make a cool creation? Well, our bodies work kind of like that too! Instead of Legos, we have different pieces of DNA that fit together to make our bodies work the way they should.

One really important part of this DNA is called a gene. Genes tell our cells what to do, like making protein to help us grow or fight off germs. But genes are made up of even smaller pieces, called exons and introns.

Exons are the parts of a gene that actually code for protein. It's like the important part of a Lego spaceship that lets it fly. Introns, on the other hand, are kind of like the extra pieces of a Lego set that you don't really need to make something cool, but they're still there.

Scientists have made something called an "exon-intron database" to keep track of all these different parts of genes. It's like a big book that lists all the exons and introns for different genes in our bodies. By studying this database, scientists can learn more about how genes work and how different diseases might be caused by changes in our DNA.

So just like how you need to follow the instructions in a Lego set to make something cool, scientists use the exon-intron database to figure out how our genes work and how we can stay healthy.
