ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Experimental fiction

Experimental fiction is a type of story that is different from what we usually read. It's kind of like playing a game with how a story is told.

Think of it like baking a cake. When we normally bake a cake, we follow a recipe with precise measurements and specific steps. But with experimental fiction, the writer might use different ingredients, add new steps, or even change the shape of the cake!

For example, a writer might not use traditional sentences or chapters in their story. They might use pictures or even no words at all! They might also use different fonts or colors to show something special in the story.

Another way writers experiment with fiction is by changing the story's structure. They might mix up the timeline so that events happen out of order. Or they might have different characters tell the story from their point of view.

Experimental fiction is all about breaking the rules and trying new things. It might be confusing at first, but it can also be exciting and give us new perspectives on what a story can be!
