An extremophile is an organism that can live in extreme conditions which would be too harsh for most other living things. These conditions can range from very hot temperatures to extremely salty water. Extremophiles have special adaptations that make them able to survive in such tough places. For example, certain extremophiles prefer living in water that is full of salt, like the Dead Sea, and have adaptations that help them to be able to survive in that environment. Another example is thermophiles, which are extremophiles that can survive at high temperatures. Thermophiles may be found near geothermal vents, which are found deep in the ocean and produce very hot water.
