ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Extremotroph

An extremotroph is a type of living thing that can survive in very harsh conditions. This could include very cold temperatures, very hot temperatures, very salty water, a lack of oxygen, and other extreme environments. Most extremotrophs can't be seen with the naked eye, but scientists are finding more and more of them in unusual places around the world. Extremotrophs can also use energy sources other than photosynthesis, and they can survive when other organisms can't.
