ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

FCoE

Okay kiddo, let me explain to you what FCoE is. FCoE stands for Fibre Channel over Ethernet. It's like the cool way of sending data from one computer to another computer. Do you know how we can send mail letters from one house to another using the postman? It's kind of like that, but for computers.

Now, there are two ways we can send data in computers: Fibre Channel and Ethernet. Fibre Channel is like a super-fast highway only for big trucks (servers), and Ethernet is like a regular street for cars (regular computers). So, FCoE is when we mix Fibre Channel and Ethernet together. We put the big trucks on the regular street! That way, we don't have to build a whole new super-fast highway just for the big trucks.

FCoE is a really good idea because it saves us a lot of money, instead of buying two separate networks (highway and street) we just need one (mixed highway and street). And, it's faster than regular Ethernet because it uses the speed of the Fibre Channel. So in conclusion, FCoE is a way of combining two ways of sending data to make it faster and cheaper.
