Ok kiddo, so you know how sometimes we eat food that makes us sick or has germs in it? The FDA Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA for short) is a law that the grown-ups made to try and make sure our food is safe to eat.
The law tells the people who make and grow our food to be extra careful and clean when they are making it. They have to make sure that the food is grown in safe soil, and that they keep their hands and equipment clean.
The people who transport our food (like food trucks and planes) also have to follow special rules to make sure our food doesn't get contaminated. And the stores where we buy our food have to make sure the food is stored at the right temperature so that it stays fresh and safe to eat.
The grown-ups who make sure the food is safe to eat (like the FDA) also get more power to go to the places where the food is made or grown to check that they are following the rules. They can even stop the food from being sold if it's not safe!
This law helps keep us safe and healthy when we eat food.
