ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Facial symmetry

Okay, so you know how your face has two eyes, a nose, and a mouth, right? Imagine if one eye was bigger than the other or if your nose was crooked instead of straight. That wouldn't look very pleasing to the eye, would it?

Facial symmetry means that your face looks exactly the same on both sides. So, if you drew a line down the middle of your face, both sides would be a mirror-image of each other. Think of it like a butterfly or a snowflake that has the same design on both sides.

Scientists say that people who have more facial symmetry are considered more attractive because it's easier for our brains to process and recognize their faces. It's like our brains are programmed to prefer faces that are easier to look at and remember.

But don't worry, it's okay if your face isn't perfectly symmetrical, most people's faces aren't! It's what makes us unique and special. When we see someone, we look at their whole face and not just whether or not it's symmetrical.
