ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Fall of Kabul (2021)

Okay little one, do you remember when we talked about Afghanistan? There were some people there who didn't like the way their government was treating them, right?

Well, a long time ago, the United States helped some other countries go to Afghanistan to try and stop those people from hurting other people. They helped set up a new government there, and it lasted for many years.

But then something happened recently that changed everything. The United States decided they didn't want to stay in Afghanistan anymore, and they told the new government they had set up that they were leaving.

The problem was that the people who didn't like the government before were still around, and they saw this as a chance to take over again. So they started fighting a lot, and they started taking over cities all over Afghanistan, including the capital city of Kabul.

This was very scary for the people who lived there, because they didn't want things to go back to the way they were before. But it happened anyway, and now the people who took over Kabul are in charge again.

It's a sad situation, and we hope that everyone can find a way to live together peacefully. But for now, things are very uncertain in Afghanistan.
