Familial Mediterranean fever

Familial Mediterranean Fever is a sickness that some people have that makes them feel not so good. It's caused by a problem with their genes which they get from their parents. The genes control the way our bodies work, and if there's a problem with them it can cause this sickness.

When someone has Familial Mediterranean Fever they might have a fever (which just means they feel very hot), or they might feel very tired or achy. They might also have a tummy ache or feel like throwing up. These things happen because the sickness makes their body attack itself by mistake.

It's called Familial Mediterranean Fever because people who come from certain countries around the Mediterranean Sea, like Turkey or Israel or Italy, are more likely to have it. But anyone can have it, even kids.

Sometimes people can take medicine or eat different foods to help them feel better, but there isn't a cure for Familial Mediterranean Fever yet. The good news is, lots of people who have it don't feel sick all the time, and they can still do lots of things they enjoy!
