ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Farthest North

Okay kiddo, so the farthest north is a special place on our planet called the North Pole. You know how we have a globe or a map that shows us all the countries and oceans in the world? Well, the North Pole is a spot on that big globe that is at the tippy-top of it!

The North Pole is special because it's a spot where all the lines of longitude on the globe meet. Do you remember learning about lines of longitude in school? They're the vertical lines on the globe or map that help us figure out where we are in the world. Well, at the North Pole, they all come together in one spot!

It's also really cold at the North Pole, even colder than where we are right now. In fact, it's covered in ice and snow all year round. Even though it's really cold and there's nothing there except ice and snow, people still want to visit the North Pole. Some people even try to hike to the North Pole, which means they have to walk for miles and miles across the ice and snow to get there.

So, to sum it up, the farthest north is a special place on the planet called the North Pole, where all the lines of longitude come together and it's really cold and covered in ice and snow all year round.
