ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Fast food advertising

Okay kiddo, so you know how you see a lot of commercials on TV, online or even on billboards for McDonald's, Burger King, KFC and other fast food places? This is called fast food advertising.

Fast food companies want to sell their food to you and that's why they make these ads. They want you to see how yummy the food looks and how happy people are while eating it, so you'll want to buy it too.

Sometimes they use colorful pictures and fun characters to make you interested in trying their food. They may also make special deals like “buy one, get one free” or “combo meals” which make the food seem like a great deal.

But sometimes these ads can be a bit misleading. They may show the food looking a lot bigger and better than it does in real life. This can make you think you’re getting more food than you actually are.

It’s important to remember that fast food should only be eaten in moderation and as part of a balanced diet. So, the next time you see a fast food ad, don’t forget to think about whether it would be a good choice for your body.
