Fayum alphabet

The Fayum alphabet is like a secret code that some people in ancient Egypt used to write things down. It is called Fayum because it was first found in a place called Fayum.

Now, just like how you know your ABCs, people who used the Fayum alphabet also had their own set of letters they used. This set of letters was different from the letters we use now.

They made each letter by drawing a little picture of something that started with that letter's sound. For example, the letter "A" looked like the head of an ox, because the sound of ox in their language started with "A".

Each letter had a special shape, just like each animal or thing they drew for the letter. And just like how we use our ABCs to spell out words, they used the Fayum alphabet to spell out words in their language.

So, the Fayum alphabet was a special way of writing that people used a long time ago in ancient Egypt. It had its own set of letters, and each letter was made by drawing a little picture of something that started with that letter's sound.
