ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Fear of God (religion)

Fear of God is a feeling that some religious people have that God is big and powerful, and that they should be respectful and a little bit scared of him. It's kind of like how you might be scared of your parents if they catch you doing something wrong, but even more big and important.

People who believe in God often think that he has set rules that they need to follow, and they might worry about what will happen to them if they break those rules. They might be scared of being punished or not being able to be with God when they die.

Some people who feel fear of God might also feel like they need to do extra things to please him or make up for things they have done wrong. They might pray a lot, give money to their church or help out in other ways because they think it will make God happy.

It's important to remember that not everyone who believes in God feels fear of him in the same way. Some people might feel closer to God and less scared, or they might focus more on the love and kindness they believe he has.
