ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act

So imagine you go to a candy store with your mom and want to buy some of your favorite candy. Before you can buy it, there are some rules that the candy store has to follow to make sure the candy is safe for you to eat.

Now, the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act is like those rules for candy stores, but for all food (like fruits and vegetables), drugs (like medicine), and cosmetics (like makeup) sold in the whole country.

The Act was made by the government to protect people like you and me from dangerous things that could harm us. It tells companies what they can and can't put in the things they make and sell, and requires them to test their products to make sure they're safe for us to use or eat.

If companies don't follow the rules in the Act, they can get into big trouble with the government.

So, in short, the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act helps keep us safe by making sure the things we eat and use are safe for us.
