ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Female genital prolapse

Okay kiddo, so you know how mommy's tummy holds her organs inside, like her belly button, right? Well, did you know that girls have another spot kind of like a belly button, but down below near their pee pee area? This is called the pelvis.

Inside the pelvis, there are some important organs that help girls do things like peeing and having babies. These organs are called the bladder, uterus, and rectum.

Sometimes, when a girl gets older or has babies, the muscles and tissues that hold these organs in place can get weak. This can cause something called female genital prolapse. It means that one or more of these organs can move down into the vagina and even stick out a little.

This might sound a little scary, but don't worry, it's actually pretty common and doctors can help fix it. Mommy might feel discomfort or pressure in her pelvis, have trouble peeing or pooping, or even notice a bulge or something sticking out of her vagina.

She can go to the doctor who will examine her and might suggest some exercises to strengthen her pelvic muscles, or even a special device called a pessary to hold the organs in place. If it's really severe, the doctor might need to do surgery to fix it.

So, remember, it's important to take care of our bodies and tell a grown-up if something doesn't feel right down there. And always remember, mommy is strong and can handle anything!
