ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Fermi liquid

Okay kiddo, do you see how when you walk, you make ripples in a puddle of water? Well, when electrons move around in a material, they also make little ripples in the material called waves.

These waves are affected by how crowded together or spread out the electrons are in the material. When the electrons are really close together, they interact with each other a lot, like when you're squished in a tight space with your friends you can't move as freely.

When this happens, the waves the electrons make are different than if they were far apart and not interacting as much.

A fermi liquid is a special kind of material where the electrons are all squished together, so they interact a lot. This means that the waves they make are affected by each other as well as the material they're in. This makes the waves more complicated than in other materials.

Fermi liquids are important because they help scientists learn more about how electrons behave in different materials, and how those materials conduct electricity.
