A filename is like the name for a book or a toy. Just like you can call your favorite toy "Teddy" or your favorite book "The Little Mermaid", a computer file also has a name. Whenever you save a document, a picture, a song, or anything else on your computer, you give it a name so that you can easily find it later.
For example, if you create a story about a cat, you might save it with the name "Cat Story" so that you can find it easily later. The filename usually includes a period and a few letters after the name, like ".docx" or ".pdf". These letters tell the computer what kind of file it is - like a word document or a picture.
Just like how you can't have two toys with the exact same name, you also can't have two files with the exact same filename in the same folder on your computer. This is why it's important to give your files unique names that make sense to you, so you can easily find them later.
