ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Film

Film is like a really long strip of paper with tiny pictures on it. When you shine light through it, the pictures move really fast, and it looks like a movie.

To make a movie, people take a lot of pictures, like hundreds or thousands, one after the other. They put those pictures on the long strip of paper and then run it through a special machine called a projector. That's the thing that shines light through the strip of paper and makes the pictures move really fast. Our eyes see the moving pictures and it looks like a story happening in front of us.

Films have been around for a long time and there are many different types of movies. Some are funny, some are suspenseful, and some are sad. People go to the cinema or watch movies at home to feel entertained or learn something new.

Films are also a form of art because creators use different camera techniques, music, and lighting to tell a story in a unique way. So, the next time you watch a movie, remember that it is made up of lots of little pictures moving really fast!
