ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Finland-Swedes

Finland is a country located in the northern part of Europe where people speak a language called Finnish. But in Finland, there are also people who speak Swedish - this is because a long time ago, Finland was ruled by Sweden. These people who speak Swedish are called Finland-Swedes.

They are a minority group in Finland, but there are still many of them. They have their own schools where they can learn in Swedish, and they also have their own cultural events and traditions. Even though they speak a different language, they are still part of Finland and they are treated equally.

So, imagine you have a big group of friends who all speak one language, but then you have a few friends who speak a different language. That's kind of like how it is in Finland, but instead of friends it's a whole group of people who speak Swedish while most people speak Finnish. But everyone gets along and is friends!
