Finnish Civil War Prison Camps were places where people who had fought in the Civil War were sent to stay as punishment. People in prison were not allowed to leave, so they were kept inside the camp walls. The camps were not nice places to stay: the prisoners were given very little food, the buildings were cold and the guards were very strict. In some of the camps, the prisoners were also forced to do hard labor, like chopping down trees or digging ditches. Prisoners often had to work long hours in the cold and mud, and were poorly treated. Although the Finns tried to make rules to make the camps better, they still were not nice places where many people suffered.
