Fire escape

Okay kiddo, fire escape is like a special ladder or stairway outside of a building that we can use to escape in case there is a fire inside the building. Sometimes buildings are super tall and if there is a fire inside, it can be dangerous to try and get out through the regular doors or elevators. The fire escape is a backup plan that helps us get out safely. The fire escape is usually made of metal and is usually outside the building, like on the side or the back. It has platforms and steps or rungs like a regular ladder or stairs but it's designed to help us escape more easily. It has special barriers to prevent people from falling off and special handles to hold on to so we can climb down safely. We have to practice using the fire escape, just like we practice crossing the street or using a seatbelt, so if there is ever an emergency, we will be prepared to get out of the building and stay safe.
