ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Fire piston

A fire piston is like a magic wand that can make fire! Inside a fire piston is a small tube with a really tight-matching piston that fits inside it. When you push the piston down really fast, it makes the air inside the tube get super hot, and when you pull the piston back up, the hot air explodes out of the tube and makes a huge spark. This spark can set fire to anything that can burn, like wood or paper. Think of it like squeezing and popping a balloon - the air gets really hot and shoots out really fast, but instead of a balloon, it's in a little tube and instead of just a pop, it sets things on fire. So, with a fire piston, you can start a fire without a lighter or matches or anything like that - you just need to know how to use the piston and have some kindling to start with.
