First Nagorno-Karabakh War
Once upon a time, there was a place in a country called Azerbaijan called Nagorno-Karabakh where many people lived who were Armenian.
The Azerbaijan government did not like that the area of Nagorno-Karabakh was not theirs, so they said that the Armenians living there should move out and go to a different place.
The Armenians living there did not want to move and they wanted to have their own country called Artsakh. So, they started to fight with the Azerbaijan soldiers.
This fighting went on for a long time and many people were hurt, killed, and had to leave their homes. The United Nations tried to help but couldn't stop the fighting.
Finally, in 1994, Armenia and Azerbaijan signed a ceasefire agreement. Nagorno-Karabakh declared themselves as the Republic of Artsakh but no country has officially recognized them yet.
There have been many talks to try and end the conflict, but it is still going on today.
