Have you ever woken up really early in the morning and seen the sun coming up over the horizon? That's called a sunrise! But did you know that the very first sunrise of the day happens in a special place on Earth?
Imagine that you are standing on a giant ball that is spinning around and around, like a top. This ball is called the Earth, and it takes about 24 hours to make one full spin. As the Earth spins, different parts of it face the sun. The side that faces the sun has daylight, while the other side has night-time.
Now, the very first sunrise of the day happens on the side of the Earth that is closest to the sun. But since the Earth is always spinning, that side is constantly changing! So, the first sunrise moves from one side of the Earth to the other as it spins.
But there's one special place where the first sunrise happens every day: it's a small group of islands in the Pacific Ocean called Samoa. Because Samoa is on the edge of a time zone, it's one of the first places on Earth to see the sun rise each day. So even before kids in other parts of the world wake up, the kids in Samoa can already see the sun coming up!
So when you wake up and see a beautiful sunrise, remember that it's not just special for you, but for people all around the world on different parts of the spinning Earth! And if you want to see the very first sunrise of the day, you'll have to travel to Samoa!
